About the Artist: Davida Fernandez
by Shawn Fulkerson
Davida, a loving mother of 3 beautiful children, is also an avid glass artist. Her found passion for glass is a culmination of many countless years of searching for the perfect medium to bring her art to life.
Her quest started in school where she played trumpet and would draw pictures of cartoon characters on people’s pants. Later in life it moved to working with precious metals to make jewelry. Later she moved to stained glass and built wonderful mosaics. Soon she became bored with her art. Mind you she had not reached the pinnacle of perfection for any of her other arts it’s just that none of it inspired her. That is until the first time she put flame to glass and saw the beautify of the molten material.
She played with making beads for a while and then not being able to get into a glass bead-making class she decided to take a class on glass fusing instead. She was instantly hooked. Several 10s of dollars later she had a giant kiln, a studio, a light table, various glass grinding/cutting devices, and a stock pile of glass. Historians will speculate in the far off future that in the molten core of her firing kiln Davida found her muse and her lifetime love.
